Ya'Djin Spirit Women

Ya’djin Spirit Women is the first full-length production from The First Creatives and is based on stories shared by Kabi Kabi/Kuku Yalanji Aunty Sharyn Malone, and Gooreng Gooreng/Kabi Kabi Aunty Chantay Link. Featuring a cast of First Nations’ women traversing colonial violence, dispossession, abuse, motherhood, blak joy, connection, Country and healing, woven together through dance, theatre and film. This unapologetic work seeks to reclaim and sustain traditional healing practices and inspire future generations to stand strong in their identity and truth.

This work premiered to sold out audiences in May 2024 at BEMAC as part of their program 'A Stage Called Home'.  It was then developed for an outdoor amphitheatre and had a second season as part of Backbone Festival at The Seven Hills Hub in October 2024.

This work is currently being developed to tour nationally in partnership with Ya'Djin Women's Collective as part of a larger cultural reclamation and healing project called YA'DJIN. The project includes workshops in partnership with First Nations and domestic violence support groups, focusing on skill exchange, healing practices, and support networks.

During this next tour The First Creatives will be running workshops to teach our 'Sisters' piece from the show so that First Nations women from the communities we engage with can be part of the final performance.
